As it turned out, people perceive unfunny jokes from men’s mouths worse than from the mouths of women. This may be due to the general perception of the different sexes.
Briefly about the new work of scientists writes Naked Science. Psychologists from Yale University decided to conduct experiments with 5,400 volunteers. Participants were read out a short story about a first date, during which a man or woman successfully or unsuccessfully joked. Then people were asked what kind of character image they had developed.
It was found that if the jokes were successful, then the character was perceived positively, and it didn’t matter if he was male or female. But if a man joked badly, people began to perceive him as inattentive, awkward and not very intelligent. Bad jokes were forgiven more often by women.
Researchers believe this is because jokes are a way for men to present themselves in the best possible light. Therefore, if jokes are bad, it is perceived worse.
